Back in January, maybe February (my brain just mushes dates all together), Greg and I picked out a sectional from Rooms To Go after searching for the perfect piece for several weeks. We needed something for our media room upstairs that could hold all five of us comfortably. I didn't want a couch/love seat set since I already have one of those in my family room. A sectional seemed like the perfect piece because we could all lay about while watching a movie or playing a video game.
I finally found what I wanted within our budget and our sectional was immediately delivered. I paid for the extra warranty and the fabric protection, although I knew we wouldn't have the dog upstairs and the kids aren't ever in there except to watch movies.
When the sectional was delivered, two delivery guys set it up and placed it immediately against a wall. After Greg got home, we moved it out from the wall and found a four inch rip on the back of the middle section of one of the pieces. I'm sure the delivery guys saw it, it would be impossible NOT to see it, especially since they set it all up. Luckily since I bought the extra warranty, RTG (Rooms To Go) came and picked up the defective piece and replaced it within two days.
A month goes by and I found another rip in a back cushion at a seam. RTG sent out a repair person and he sewed it up and it seemed to be in good condition. Within another month, we noticed piling on the cushions. It's a chenille material and it looked as if the entire fabric was coming apart. At this point, I was getting very worried that the sectional would just disintegrate if we sat on it any further.
Last week, when I was cleaning up the room, I found yet another huge rip in a seat cushion. I called RTG and they sent out a technician to look at the damage. Well, guess what? The technician told me that the manufacturer of our sectional went out of business because they made damaged goods (I kind of figured that). There aren't replacement parts and the sectional will just continue to get rips and tears.
I got a call from a RTG representative yesterday and was given the green light to pick out a replacement. We get a credit of the price of our original sectional plus the sales tax and warranty, and then we can use that credit toward any other piece of furniture in the store. Now we have to go back this weekend and start another search.
I looked on their website but can't find anything that I really like, or that's within our credit budget. The good thing is that RTG is taking care of us, and that's saying a lot considering how many stores are really lacking in the customer service department nowadays. Well, I guess the search for a replacement in on for this weekend.
