Crayola Art

I know Christmas is over, but I wanted to show you what Taylor and I made for her teacher. I found the idea from another Coast Guard wife who found it from an etsy site. The CG wife showed a photo of what she made, so I decided to try my hand at it as well.

We started with a lot of crayons, actually two big 96 count packages of Crayola's. I only used one pack and had a lot left over, so if you do this, you probably only need one package. I bought a t-shirt frame from Michael's that was on sale for 50% off so the price was only $4.99. I also needed foam board, which I had, so that helped keep my cost under $10 for the project. I bought the crayons with a 40% off coupon that I got from the Michael's weekly insert in the newspaper.

I measured the opening of the t-shirt frame and then cut the foam board to size with an x-acto knife. I figured out how I would lay out the crayons and placed them on my cutting board. Once I had it perfect, I glue-gunned (is that a word?) the crayons onto the foam board.

Lastly, I wrote the teacher's name on the board and then placed it in the frame. Perfect! From what Taylor told me, it was a big hit. I also made one for my mom, who is also a teacher. Unfortunately, hers came to her with a chip in the glass, or a little piece of broken glass. Ugh! I guess it was tossed or dropped during the shipping from FL to TX. Luckily, the frames are very inexpensive, so it can be replaced.

Taylor and I had fun with this project, so it might be something we will do again. I also heard that you can make these with band-aids (for nurses) or art brushes (for the art teacher). There are a lot of different ways to make it.
