I found a silicone heart mold that is used to make tiny heart muffins or brownie hearts. Then the girls and I took off all the paper wrapping from each and every crayon piece. It started out to be a bit tedious until Greg mentioned using an X-acto knife to cut the wrapping. Hmmm...good idea. After that, it was smooth sailing.
We filled the heart molds with colors and then placed the mold in the oven at 200 degrees. Greg flipped it up to 300 to get them to melt quicker. Once they were completely melted, we pulled them out, let them rest for a few minutes, and then placed them in the refrigerator to harden. It only took about 15 minutes in the fridge. After that, we popped them out, and voila! We had the cutest little heart crayons.
The girls used them as part of their Valentine treat bag to give out to their classmates. Unfortunately, I found that Hayden had gone through the heart crayon stash and tried to use them...on our dining table. Luckily, it cleaned up!
