Duke, The Great Dane: 10 Weeks Old

After a year long discussion and months of research, we finally became dog parents. We adopted our little puppy almost three weeks ago and immediately fell in love with him. He's the biggest sweetheart dog, with a great personality. Duke is a brindle, which means he has those gorgeous tiger stripes. The funny thing is that it's like camouflage, he blends in well with our rugs and the grass. Right now, he's about 25 or so pounds, not too big. But once he's full grown, he should be about 170-200 pounds.

He plays a lot with the kids, but it seems that he thinks Hayden is his puppy brother. He jumps on him and trys to puppy wrestle with him. As is normal, he's a chewer. Not only have the kids learned to keep the floors spotless from toys, but even Greg and I have learned NOT to keep shoes out. EVERYTHING has to be put away.

Luckily, he was potty trained within his first week of living with us. I was extremely surprised at that. I thought it would take weeks, but the only issue we have is making sure that Hayden looks where he steps when he goes outside. Poor little guy has stepped in some Duke mess at least twice. Greg has to go on poop patrol each afternoon.

I think Duke is really happy here, and we are so happy he's here with us. He's such a sweet and gentle dog, all he wants to do is please his family. Now if I can just break him from wanting to sit on the couch, which will be hard since Greg and Duke like to sit there together every evening. Oh well, pretty soon he'll be as big as the couch! Enjoy the Duke photos!
