While visiting Grandma Bobbie in Maine, we spent a day at a friend's cabin at Owl's Head. It's a beautiful little village that also has the Coast Guard owned Owl's Head Lighthouse. The lighthouse holds a bit of nostalgia to us, as that's the place we used to spend some time at while Greg's captain lived there. We were there the day before Taylor was born. I remember everyone saying how I still had another month to go, but strangely enough, little Taylor came early. The lighthouse is also said to be haunted and has been featured on many TV programs and in books.
Bobbie's friend, Larry, invited us to his cabin for some real Maine lobster. Of course, you can't resist lobster while in Maine. It's pretty much a staple. It was a gorgeous day with low winds so we were able to have the kids playing outside. Larry's grandson was there so he was able to show my kids all the neat places on the property and take them all around.
Larry's cabin is quite old, belonging to his grandfather, I believe. It was built in another part of Maine and then later moved to Owl's Head by truck. He showed us photos of the old 1940's or 50's looking trucks pulling it. It's one of the only homes so close to the water because it was placed there before there were laws established regarding how close a house or domicile could be to the water.
The kids enjoyed playing with "lunch" before it became lunch, and Greg and I loved just being right on the water. The scenery was more than beautiful, the company was fantastic, and the lobster was yummy! I enjoyed seeing all the old, colorful lobster bouys tacked to the walls; I could definitely do a neat craft with those things! But they look fabulous enough where they are.
I'm pretty sure I won't be able to put all the lobster photos in one post, so bear with me. It might have to go to Part 5 and possibly Part 6. Enjoy the photos!
