Hayden's Big Boy Bedroom

Hayden's room is just about finished, thank goodness! I started in January by first purchasing his dresser and bookcase at IKEA. Once we had that set up, I started looking around at paint samples trying to figure out what color to go with. Lately, I've noticed several people using gray tones in nurseries and kid's rooms. I went through a dozen gray samples but couldn't find anything that looked just right. Unfortunately, the boy's bedroom has one small window and it only gets sunlight in the afternoon. I couldn't go with too dark of a color or his room would never brighten up. His room was already dark enough with the dark blues on the wall and lack of good lighting.

After a trip to Home Depot, I came across their Martha Stewart line of paints and brought home some blue-gray samples. After putting a couple dozen spots all over Hayden's walls, we finally picked the color, Martha Stewart Hydrangea.

We started with Glidden primer and had to use two coats to cover the old dark blue paint. It took a full evening to get it finished but by midnight, we were finally done. Or at least Greg was finished because I quit an hour before and passed out on the couch. The primer fumes had my brain pretty high.

The next night we started on the paint color. After the first coat, Greg mentioned that it looked violet. Seriously?? By the time the second coat was put on, it started to take on it's intended color. However, Taylor came bursting into the room and said it looked purple. COME ON PEOPLE!!!

Once we finished, placed the furniture back where it belonged and cleaned up the room, it looked like the bluish gray toned color that I wanted it to be. Now all that's left to do is put the picture frames and art work up on the walls. Hopefully, it won't be another month or two before that's done.
