Lemon Sugar Scrub

As part of the teacher gifts for Riley's teachers, I made the glass etched jars shown here. Now I just needed something to fill them up. I found a lemon sugar scrub recipe from another Coast Guard wife that she got from here. It was really easy to make and made a great teacher gift.

The recipe is super simple, but I did change it up a bit from the original. I found that the original recipe didn't have much lemon scent. My recipe used: 2 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 cup of olive oil, and LOTS of lemon essential oil. I found the oil at Nutrition S'Mart, a natural food and drug store in my area.

I started out mixing the sugar and oil together in a big bowl, then added my lemon oil. You really have to just do a smell test to make sure it has enough lemon scent for you. The olive oil, depending on your brand, can possibly take over the lemon scent.

After making a few jars, I added my own ribbons and lid toppers and then added a small white spoon that I tied on with more ribbon. I wrapped them up and Riley passed them out to her teachers. For some reason, she was extremely nervous to do so, but the teachers gave her big hugs and a lot of thanks.

After making them, I went back to Nutrition S'Mart and found that they have grapeseed oil, almond oil, and other various oils. I'm going to make another batch with the new oils and see how well it comes out. I have a jar in the downstairs guest bathroom. The kids love to use the sugar scrub, even Hayden. And it's kind of nice to have my kids smelling lemon-y fresh, even if it's only for a moment!
