Taylor had her birthday party this weekend at MyGym again. I love using their facilities because everything is taken care of except the cake and drinks. After last year's "bug" theme, Taylor decided on dinosaurs for this year's party. I started off making my own dinosaur invitations with all my Stampin' Up supplies, which came out pretty cute I have to say. I found cute dino plates and napkins, tons of dino goodies for the favor bags and awesome dino paper to make the favor bags. The only thing left to do was order the cake.
Last year I used The Cake Ladies which is a group of women that make the most delicious and beautiful cakes. Unfortunately, they no longer make birthday cakes and only design wedding cakes. So I went off on a search of a baker who could do a cute dinosaur cake that would be a step above the traditional grocery store cake, but not break the bank. I was given the name of Heidi Varden, a local baker who makes cakes out of her home. I went through her website, did some "ooh's" and "ahhh's" over her photos and decided to give her a call. Talking to Heidi was like talking to my best friend from high school. The conversation flowed like the two of us had known each other since 2nd grade and were catching up on old times. Luckily, Heidi was available to make Taylor's cake and got right to work.
The day of the party, I talked to Heidi and she told me about an issue she had making Taylor's cake. Her husband makes all the bases for the cakes and then she puts the cakes around and on the bases. She had tried to make a raptor cake, but somehow, it didn't hold up. So after apologizing about it, she told me she had to settle for a stegosaurus in a nest laying down. It still sounded nice and I was eager to see it.
While I was inside MyGym setting up, I saw Heidi getting out of her vehicle with a HUGE cake. People had been stopping her just to see the dinosaur. When she brought it in, I was in complete shock! It was the most beautiful birthday cake I had ever put my eyes on. It was a stegosaurus sitting in a nest with her dino eggs. There was a banner going across the nest wishing Taylor a Happy Birthday.
Honestly, no words can describe this gorgeous cake, so enjoy the photos! Because we DEFINITELY enjoyed the cake!!! By the way...it was DELICIOUS too!
