A New Move?

It's that time of year...getting the dreamsheet filled out!! Ok, for my non-military family, which means...uhhh...everyone but Eric and Summer, that means it's time to start figuring out where we want to go next year. We had been toying with the idea of leaving the Coast Guard, as we do every three years, but after much consideration, we've decided to stay. The benefits are good, like the medical and life insurance, but the pay could be bumped up a bit. I'll have to remember to write my congressman about that later. The official list of available places to go hasn't come out yet, but we did find a place we are thinking about putting as our #1 pick. Drum roll please.....SOUTHWEST HARBOR, MAINE!

HUH?? WHERE?? I know my dear southern family and friends are saying "Do they even have summer up there?" Yes, they do!! Actually, Southwest Harbor is a beautiful village on Mt. Desert Island (ohhh....I could be an islander!) that neighbors Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Greg and I spend our anniversaries in Bar Harbor when we happen to be in the state, so we are quite familiar with the area. It's a bit farther north than Camden where we lived previously, and where Grandma Bobbie still lives. We were hoping for Portland, but with the type of work Greg is looking for, SW Harbor seems to fit the bill.

There is base housing in the town but I just got word from a Coastie that just moved out that the duplexes are having black mold issues. The two bedrooms are all updated and fixed, but the 3 and 4 bedrooms are pretty much just empty buildings now. They are working to tear down and rebuild the units, but gee...we know how fast the gov't works with issues like this. And I can't see us cramming our 5 person family into a 2 bedroom.

I had to look up if there was a Target near, and lo and behold, there is! It's in Bangor which is about an hour away, but close enough for a half day trip. As most of you know, I'm not a Walmart shopper and can probably count on one hand how many times I've been to that store in the past few years. I won't get started on my Walmart rant because (Mom!! I see your eyes rolling already!!) I would be writing for hours.

Uh oh. Diego just ended on Nick Jr. channel. That means it's snack time for Riley.
