Poison Control

Staying with family means that while you enjoy being there, they just don't keep the kitchen stocked the way you do. Of course, I have young children, so you'll find goldfish and fruit bars along with juice boxes in my house. I decided to scrounge for something for myself and in the back of the pantry I found a little bag of almonds. JACKPOT!! I opened the bag and noticed they had these black dots all over them. I looked at the bag and read that they were "spicy almonds." Hmmm...ok, I can definitely do that. So I take a bite, chew a bit, notice a strange taste, but continue eating them thinking it must be a weird spicyness flavor to them. As I'm chewing a few more almonds, I start to read all the print on the bag and come across the expiration date. The almonds expired the same year my brother graduated from high school!!! Not college....HIGH SCHOOL!!! He's turning 26 in a couple of months!!! So I run to the kitchen sink while spitting almonds and start gulping down water. After my initial thinking of contacting poison control, I decided to wait it out. So far I'm still alive, so things are looking ok. I went ahead and inspected the almonds and still haven't determined what the black dots are, but I really don't even want to guess (mold???). I have realized that if something tastes bad, don't continue to eat it thinking it might get better.
